Pricing
What does a new roof cost in Airdrie?
For a typical Airdrie home, most standard asphalt replacements land somewhere around $9,000 to $13,000, and metal roofs start around $18,000 (2026 Airdrie market estimates, not quotes). The real number depends on your roof's area, pitch, how many layers come off and the condition of the deck. Class 4 shingles, metal profiles and flat roofs each have their own ranges, and the Airdrie roofing cost guide breaks down every roof type along with what a complete quote should include.
Why can't you give me a price over the phone?
Because the house size doesn't tell us the roof size. Pitch, valleys, dormers, a hidden second layer or soft decking can change the price by thousands. We can give you a ballpark on the phone, but a written quote only comes after we've seen the roof. A roofer who quotes a firm price without looking is either guessing or planning to add extras later.
Is a repair always cheaper than a replacement?
Up front, yes — most Airdrie repairs are a few hundred dollars. But if a repair would cost more than about half of a new roof, or the roof is past about two-thirds of its life, the money is usually better spent on a replacement. The roof repair cost guide explains the 50% rule. Repeated leaks, granule loss across several slopes and soft decking in more than one place are the other signs that a roof is past repairing.
Can I pay for a roof over time?
Many homeowners finance a roof with a home equity line of credit, a bank loan or contractor-arranged financing. It's often used to cover a deductible after hail, an upgrade to Class 4, or a replacement that can't wait. Compare the rate, the term and the total cost of borrowing before you sign — the roof financing page walks through the options.
The process
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most single-family roofs in Airdrie are replaced in one to three days, depending on size, complexity, weather and whether there's decking to replace. Flat roofs, metal roofs and large or cut-up roofs can take longer. Weather is the main variable: we don't open a roof if rain or high wind is forecast, and a delay of a day or two is normal in a stormy week.
Do I need to be home while you work?
Not usually. We'll want to talk to you before we start and walk through the finished roof with you at the end. In between, the crew needs access to the yard and an outdoor power outlet, and the driveway clear for the disposal bin. It helps to move cars out of the garage the night before, take pictures off walls on the top floor, and keep children and pets away from the drop zone around the house.
Can a roof be replaced in winter in Airdrie?
Yes, with care. Shingles are more brittle in the cold and their sealant strips need warmth to bond, so winter installs include hand-sealing and are scheduled around snow and wind. Late spring through early fall is still the easiest time, and books up first — especially after a hail season, when every roofer in the region is busy at once. Planning ahead gives you the most choice of dates.
Do you remove the old roof or install over it?
We remove it. Tearing off down to the deck lets us replace soft sheathing, install ice-and-water shield where it belongs and fix ventilation. Roofing over old shingles saves a little today but hides the deck, shortens the new roof's life and doubles the tear-off next time.
Materials
Which roofing material is best for Airdrie?
For most homes, Class 4 impact-resistant asphalt shingles installed to a high-wind specification — they handle hail far better than standard shingles at a moderate price. Metal suits owners staying for decades, and flat sections need TPO or EPDM membranes. Whatever the material, the installation details — starter on the rakes, high-wind nailing, balanced ventilation — decide how well it holds up on an exposed prairie lot.
Are Class 4 shingles worth the extra cost?
In Airdrie's hail corridor, usually yes. Class 4 shingles start around $6 per sq ft installed, typically a dollar or two per sq ft more than a comparable standard shingle (2026 Airdrie market estimates). They're far more likely to survive a summer storm, and some insurers offer a premium credit for them. On a hail claim, paying only the difference to upgrade is often the cheapest moment to make the switch.
How long does a roof last in Airdrie?
Asphalt shingles typically last 15 to 20 years here — less than the bundle suggests, because of hail, UV, wind and freeze-thaw. Metal roofs are commonly expected to last several decades. Ventilation and installation quality make a big difference either way: an overheated, damp attic can take years off a shingle roof, and a roof installed without starter strip on the rakes often starts losing shingles long before it's worn out.
Emergencies
What should I do if my roof is leaking right now?
Move valuables away from the leak, catch the water, and if a ceiling is bulging, carefully puncture it to drain it into a bucket before it collapses. Don't climb onto a wet or icy roof. Take photos of the damage inside and out for your insurer. Then call a roofer for temporary protection and a permanent repair — the sooner water is stopped, the less drywall, insulation and flooring you'll need to replace.
Can you tarp a roof after a storm?
Yes. Emergency tarping or a temporary seal stops water coming in until a permanent repair can be done, usually starting around $500. Keep the receipt — reasonable emergency protection is normally part of an insurance claim if the damage is covered. A tarp is a stopgap: once the roof is dry, the permanent repair is priced and scheduled separately.
Insurance
Will insurance pay for my roof after hail?
Often, if the damage came from hail or wind rather than age. How much depends heavily on the roof's age and your policy: younger roofs are often replaced in full minus the deductible, while older roofs may be depreciated or paid at actual cash value. Wear and tear isn't covered, and some Alberta policies carry a separate wind and hail deductible, so read the roofing section of your policy or ask your broker.
Should I call my insurer or a roofer first?
Report the storm promptly, but have the roof inspected before the adjuster visits if you can. You'll know what's on the roof, have photos by slope, and be able to compare the adjuster's scope with real evidence. If the damage turns out to be minor or close to your deductible, you may decide not to claim at all — which can protect your claims history.
Can a roofer cover my deductible?
No legitimate roofer will. Covering or waiving a deductible means the invoice overstates the job to your insurer, which is insurance fraud and can put your own coverage at risk. Treat any offer like that as a warning sign — along with door-to-door pressure to sign the same day, requests for a large deposit up front, or anyone asking you to sign over your claim before the roof has been inspected.
Warranty
What's the difference between a workmanship and a manufacturer warranty?
The manufacturer's warranty covers defects in the materials. The workmanship warranty comes from the roofer and covers the installation — flashing, nailing, underlayment and vents. Most early roof failures are installation problems, so ask every roofer for their workmanship terms in writing, and keep the invoice and warranty documents with your house records in case you ever need to make a claim or sell the home.
Does a warranty cover hail or wind damage?
Generally not. Hail and windstorms beyond the product's rating are covered by home insurance, not by the manufacturer or the roofer. Warranties cover defects in the materials and the installation. That's one more reason impact-rated shingles are worth considering in Airdrie: they reduce the chance of needing an insurance claim at all.
Service areas
Where do you work?
Every community in Airdrie, plus Crossfield to the north and Balzac to the south. There's no travel charge anywhere in that area. If you're on an acreage nearby, call and ask. Prices, estimates and service are the same across the whole area, and the service areas page describes the kind of roofs we see in each place.
Do you do commercial roofs?
Yes — low-slope TPO, EPDM, modified bitumen and built-up roofs on retail units, offices and light-industrial buildings in Airdrie and Balzac, planned around tenants and trading hours. Rooftop units, parapets and drains are where commercial roofs usually leak, so those are the first things we check.
